A review of the EPoS data through Transpeye, our bespoke data mining software, plus a series of targeted test purchases, confirmed that the individual concerned was pocketing around 50% of all cash transactions.
The charity decided not to prosecute – and the individual was later seen working in another charity shop on the same High Street.
Lesson – sometimes it pays to involve the Police, to act as a deterrent and prevent simply moving the problem from your organisation to another within the sector.
